Sid the Kid vs AP

The winner of this 4-5 matchup takes on Kobe in the sweet sixteen.

Sidney Crosby:

  • Drafted number 1 overall in 2005
  • In his rookie season he was sixth in the league in scoring with 102 points, but finished second in Calder Trophy voting behind Alex Ovechkin
  • Won the Art Ross, Hart Memorial trophy, and Lester B. Pearson trophy in his 2nd season. (7th player in history to win all 3 awards in one year)
  • Helped Team Canada win silver and gold in 04-05 in the World Junior Championships
  • Excluding this seasons stats, he averages more than 1.35 points per game
  • Youngest player in history to have 2 consecutive 100 point seasons
  • Became the youngest captain in NHL history
  • Weird fact: Crosby wears number 87, his contract is worth $8.7 million per year and his birthday is 8/7/87

Adrian Peterson:

  • Finished 2nd in Heisman Trophy voting as a freshman at Oklahoma (Matt Leinart)
  • Drafted number 7 overall in 2007
  • NFL offensive rookie of the year
  • 2 time Pro Bowl selection (named MVP in 2007)
  • 2 time All-Pro selection
  • Holds record for most rushing yards in a single game with 296 against the Chargers
  • Has over 3,000 rushing yards in his first 2 seasons
  • Has been compared to Eric Dickerson, Walter Payton, Gale Sayers, OJ Simpson and Jim Brown

This is a tough one.  Both athletes have had their fair share of success in their young careers, but Sidney Crosby will move on to face Kobe Bryant in the next round.
