the kid vs the martian

match19

Now you would think a 4 vs 13 matchup would be an easy one to decide, but this one is quite the opposite.

Sidney Crosby:

  • Selected first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2005. (The Sabres, Blue Jackets, Rangers, and Pens all had 3 lottery balls. The Sabres of course ended up with the 13th pick. Marek Zagrapan. Awesome.)
  • In his rookie season he was sixth in the league in scoring with 102 points. He finished second in rookie of the year voting.
  • In his second season he led the league in scoring with 120 points. He won the Art Ross, Hart Memorial trophies, and Lester B. Pearson trophies. (7th player in history to win all 3 awards in one year)
  • Won Gold in the 2005 World Juniors and Silver in ’04 for Team Canada of course.
  • The jersey he wore in his first NHL game was lost with his father’s luggage on a flight from Pittsburgh to Buffalo. It was found later. Speaking of jerseys, the jersey from his third NHL game sold for over $20,000. $20,000!!!!!!

Marvin Harrison

  • He was a star in soccer, tennis, and basketball in high school. Well football too, but I figured that was a given. He went to Syracuse University and played with Donovan McNabb. He is Syracuse’s all-time leader in recieving yards and second in recieving TDs.
  • Selected 19th overall in the 1996 NFL Draft. One of the best wide reciever drafts in the history of the NFL. Keyshawn Johnson, Terry Glenn, Eddie Kennison, Moulds, Bobby Engram, TO, Muhsin Muhammad, Amani Toomer, and Joe Horn were all taken.
  • 8-time Pro Bowler and 8-time All-Pro. Super Bowl XLI Champion
  • The tandem of Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison is one of the greatest in NFL history. The hold the record for most TDs between a QB and a WR.
  • Holds multiple NFL records (most receptions in a season, only player to have 4 conesuctive 100 reception and 1,400 yard seasons, only player to have 50 or more catches in his first 11 seasons, one of 5 players with 1000 catches in his career)

Now if this had been 2 years ago, Harrison would probably win. But he has had two average seasons in a row, and now isn’t even the best reciever on the team. I will go with Crosby on this one, even though I hate him with a passion.
