Hmmm…

Over the last month or so, ESPN has been going all around the country trying to find ‘Titletown USA.’ There is Boston, with the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Patriots, and even the Bruins. Green Bay has the Packers and all of their crazy cheeseheaded fans. Los Angeles has the Angels, Dodgers, Kings, Lakers, USC Trojans, and the UCLA Bruins. Detroit has the Pistons and Red Wings, and Pittsburgh has the Pens and Steelers. You would think one of these cities would win the title, right? You know who won? Valdosta, Georgia.

Valdosta has no professional sports teams in the city. All they have is high school football and Division II college football.  Granted their teams are good, but come on. Really? Not only did they win, but they recieved 29.2% of the vote. There were 30 cities, and they recieved almost 1/3 of the vote. I’m sorry but this just really annoys me.

It would annoy you because you think that the only sports are sports with athletes getting paid. Well, in fact there are people who play the game for fun. Example: high school and college sports. Just because they don’t have an MLB or NFL powerhouse doesn’t mean they don’t deserve this title, Valdosta’s dominance of Georgia HS football is well known by anyone who has any idea what’s going on. And by the way, for Los Angeles, you didn’t even mention UCLA and USC. Just by forgetting to mention these two teams who have at least 125 national titles combined in all sports, you lose all credibility.
