2008 Home Run Derby

The 2008 State Farm Home Run Derby is being held tonight at 8 pm at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.  There will be 8 participants including Lance Berkman, Ryan Braun, Josh Hamilton, Evan Longoria, Justin Morneau, Grady Sizemore, Dan Uggla and Chase Utley.  Last year’s winner, Vladimir Guerrero, was going to defend his title, but ultimately decided not to in order to spend time with his family.  Lance Berkman has competed in this event 3 other times (2002, 2004, 2006) with his best finish in 2004 finishing in 2nd place, 6 home runs behind Miguel Tejada.  Justin Morneau finished in 5th place last year, his only other time competing in the Home Run Derby.  He did not advance past the first round because Albert Pujols defeated the Morneau 2-1 in a swing off after each competitor had hit 4 home runs each.  Ryan Braun, Josh Hamilton, Evan Longoria, Grady Sizemore, Dan Uggla and Chase Utley will all be competing for the first time in this event.
